The Water

In the forests of Nerike, where the lakes of Hjälmaren and Tisaren are located, is the beginning of our water. The water filters through the 10,000-year-old valley glacier before it is pumped up from the ground from our own spring.

As early as a thousand years ago, people made pilgrimages to the spring. According to legend, the fresh and clean water had a special property that gave health and strength to those who drank it. The water we use is from this water system. It's pure, clean and crystal clear.

It rains a lot in Sweden - too

This water collects in pools on the moorland, and then drains down into quarries (old ice scraped features). It then seeps down through the woods and the peat and onto the hard rock - metamorphosed quartzite - and runs down to Ekeberg up in the hillside, and from there it comes to its final destination - The Distillery.

This hard base rock ensures that the water doesn't pick up any unwanted minerals or trace elements so it remains soft and peaty - perfect for making whisky.
