The Big Sleep

We use only the very best casks made from the very best wood. Such as sherry barrels from Spain and bourbon barrels from Kentucky that have had only one filling of sherry or bourbon whiskey. We also use oak from our Swedish forests.

By using these second-hand, high quality casks, we believe we'll achieve a high quality spirit. Mellowed by the previous use, the oak will help mature the Swedish whisky. Allowing it to breathe, soften and assume subtle flavours and absorb a golden colour.

If necessary, we will char the inside of the cask with a blast of fire to open the grain of the wood, allowing the whisky to interact more easily with it.

We know that the quality of our barrels is vital, as this is where the magic happens. If pressure-testing our sherry barrels, we'll use sherry instead of water so that their integrity will not be compromised. Because our customera are worth it.

Obsession or what?

Our obsession with finding the perfect wood in which to mature Grythyttan has seen us travel the world. Hand selecting the barrels. We are committed to never, ever, filling our casks more than twice. That's rather unique, too.
